gOzOzO FAQ

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  •

Q:“I was wondering if your pouches were okay to use with infants and can the same pouch be used with the infant into toddlerhood or would I need to change sizes?"

A: The pouch is made to fit the wearer throughout the different stages of the infancy to toddlerhood. For instance, as a newborn, the cradle hold will be the position most appropriate for this stage since they have limited neck control and the swaddle or womb -like position is soothing for most newborns. As your child gains more neck control and gets bigger and stronger, the other holds such as tummy to tummy, front carry, hip carry and back may be used. I’ve been using the sling since my daughter was an infant and she continues to enjoy it at the age of 27 months. Not all kids are the same and some infants may not like the newborn cradle or front carry but when they can be placed on the hip they may really enjoy the closeness and the view!

Q:" What are the benefits of wearing my baby in a pouch?"

A: View our page dedicated to this subject.

Q: “My newborn is very small and looks lost down in the pouch, what should I do?”

A: Use a soft blanket and fold it so it fits behind the baby's head . Place the baby in the pouch with the folded blanket behind his or her head to help prop the head up.. Make sure the curve or seam of the pouch in placed by this legs or bottom. You may also use a shoulder flip* to allow the baby's head to show.

Q: “My baby gets really irritable in the pouch; am I do anything wrong?”

A: Try moving around, taking a walk, dancing gently to sooth the baby in the pouch. Infants usually like movement. It takes practice for you and your baby to get use to the pouch sling or any other carrier. Practice and gain confidence when using the pouch. If age appropriate, try different positions.

Q: “My baby loved the pouch as a newborn, now he is almost 4 months old and doesn’t like the cradle position. His head control isn’t great yet either. What should I do?”

A: Sometimes newborns love the cradle hold position for the first 3 months and then as they gain more head control and want to “spread out” they prefer another hold. This is a tricky stage since they don’t have great head control for the other positions. You may try the front hold or tummy to tummy. Sometimes you’ll need to take a break and re-introduce the pouch when they are better able to do the hip carry. The pouch isn't just for the newborn stage; you will get plenty for the next two years!

Q: “Can you breastfeed while using the pouch?”

A: Yes! While the baby is in cradle position, tummy to tummy or hip carry it is convenient to take a breastfeeding break. For the beginner babywearer or breastfeeder: sit while nursing your child in the pouch. Simply pull the bottom “rail” fabric away to nurse. For the more advanced: you can try wearing the baby while nursing.

Q: “My baby looks cramped in the pouch, is it too small?”

A: The pouch mimics the womb like feeling of being cradled. Remember your baby is very flexible, and spent 9 months in a very small space. If baby is uncomfortable, they will let you know! If the pouch is too small, you will have a difficult time getting your baby in the proper position. And the pouch will feel too tight. You may exchange the pouch for a larger size.*

Q: I sometimes get neck and back pain when I have the pouch on.

A: Make sure you have the pouch on correctly and it rests on over your shoulder area not near your neck If you are carrying your toddler and his or her weight is greater than 30 lbs. be mindful that it’s a lot of weight to carry for long periods of time. Know your limitations.
